BUILDING FOUNDATIONS
OF ACCESS AND REPRESENTATION
Creative Coaches connects students and underserved youth to community mentors through speciality programming accessible to over 33,000 Des Moines Public School students and strives to provide a collaborative environment of young thinkers to develop next generation of successful entrepreneurs and innovator, access to arts and culture by offering easy communal access to equipment and tools from all major disciplines of music, art and hands-on skills, and expand youth critical thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and social-emotional well-being through unique learning space and guided mentorship.
Coral Thede is a free-spirited performer who strings together music, comedy and storytelling. She produced a landmark comedy show, was featured in the Des Moines Story Tellers Project at Hoyt Sherman and just hosted a one night only intimate event at xBk. As the first Teaching Artist and Mentor of our Creative Coaching mentoring program, she’s excited to share the gift of creativity, imagination and manifestation with students at Madison Elementary

Music and Manifestation with Coral Thede

“On Tuesdays, I get to spend an hour with K-2nd graders while we talk about the parts of the guitar, work on deep breathing exercises and practice our affirmations. We sing and dance and even tell jokes! It’s a fun way for the kids to expand their creativity into something that could one day be their profession.My favorite part is when they get excited to share a story or song. We work on standing tall, projecting our voice and making eye contact. It’s cool to see them come out of their shell. Whether it’s music, art or whatever their creative calling is, I hope they use it. Des Moines is full of talented creators and I think it’s important for the kids to know they can pursue and build off their gifts right here, if they so choose.” – Coral Thede
